About us

Belfast Kinbaku Dojo is Northern Ireland / Republic of Ireland's first and only dedicated rope space. We have created a warm and welcoming place for all rope enthusiasts to learn Japanese Rope Bondage, often called Shibari or Kinbaku, in a safe and progressive manner.

Our Story

NI/ROI is a small place, the kink community even smaller. When we fell in love with Shibari we realised that learning would be very difficult here. So we travelled, we learned and brought the knowledge back. In July 2019, Belfast Kinbaku Dojo was born.
We wanted to remove the barriers to education that were in front of us.

Our Aim

Our aim is to provide an inclusive and nurturing community space where rope enthusiasts can socialise, learn and develop their skill. We maintain a cosy atmosphere to foster a sense of relaxation and home comforts that represents belonging and the welcoming nature of our community.

Our Space

Only 1 mile from City Hall, our cosy 48m² space is set in a discreet location. We are accessible by public transport and provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere to everyone who comes through our doors. Everyone is welcome here, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, disability, kink, experience level, rope style or any other label.

Who Are we?

Braxas

Co-Owner

I first fell in love with Kinbaku in 2016 when I attended the Kinbaku Dojo Berlin. Since then, my life has been a whirlwind of private tuition, workshops and rope events. I began my journey in Osada style and although I have evolved a lot since then, I owe a lot to the incredibly detailed and thorough education that I received.

To me, Kinbaku isn't about patterns or pretty shapes. Patterns are a tool, and pretty shapes are the by-product. Kinbaku is about taking your own internal emotional monologue and turning it into an external emotional dialogue. The journey is what matters to me.
